Jennifer Scott Koontz, M.D., MPH, will receive the 2021 Outstanding Alumnus Award Sunday, Oct. 3, as part of Fall Festival.

Koontz, of Newton, has always had a heart for the community, which the past 18 months of pandemic have only emphasized.

The Outstanding Alumnus Award is given on the basis of character and citizenship, service to church/community or college, or other outstanding achievements, honors and recognition.

Except for briefly considering a missionary career as a first grader, Koontz has always wanted to be a doctor.

Kauffman Museum tackles the controversial issue of e-cigarettes in its newest special exhibit, which had its grand opening July 29 at the museum.

The public was invited to view “Vapes: Marketing an Addiction” with the exhibit team present to interact with visitors.

“Vapes," which just finished a 7-week run at NMC Health in Newton, examines what is known about e-cigarettes, the new alternative to smoking.
