Bethel will welcome Marché Fleming-Randle, Ph.D., from Wichita State University to campus for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, in Mem Hall.

The title of Fleming-Randle’s talk is “Together We Can be the Dream.” The program is free and open to the public.

Fleming-Randle, who grew up in Junction City, Kan., came to WSU as teaching faculty in 2007. In 2021, she made history by becoming the first African-American female vice president (for military and veterans affairs) in the institution’s 126-year history. She is also chief diversity officer.

Bethel's Martin Luther King Jr. celebration will feature spoken word artist M'Vyonne Payne and national speaker Chris Singleton, on Jan. 18.

Each year, the college remembers the day in 1960 when Dr. King spoke in a packed Memorial Hall on “The Future of Integration.”

This year’s celebration takes place Jan. 18, with in-person and virtual options in line with public health guidelines surrounding COVID-19.

On display at Kauffman Museum through March 15 is a Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibit honoring Martin Luther King Jr.’s final and most ambitious vision.

“City of Hope: Resurrection City and the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign” is currently at the museum on the Bethel College campus through March 15.

Kauffman Museum is open 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Mon.-Fri., 1:30-4:30 p.m. Sat.-Sun., and closed Mondays and major holidays. There is an admission charge for non-museum members.
